All Aboard! Destination Gravenhurst: A More Connected Future for Gravenhurst!

September 26, 2026 · Gordie Merton

Grab your bags and get your tickets: destination Gravenhurst! Imagine hopping onto a heritage style trolley, styled after our historic SS Segwun, and cruising comfortably between the Wharf, our downtown shops, Kinsmen Park and Plaza, and our favourite local spots along the way. It’s a practical, character filled way to connect our resorts and seasonal visitors right into town so they spend their dollars locally, while giving our year round neighbours an easy, reliable ride to run errands, see the doctor, or grab groceries without stressing over parking.

To get the wheels turning, I’ll be putting forward a motion in Council to update our Official Plan so we can actively pursue transit solutions with real character, alongside dependable four season options. This concept has been shaped by the conversations I’ve had with so many of you on your front porches:

  • Linking Our Core Hubs & Resorts Teaming up with local resorts, downtown shops, and health services so folks have a safe, easy ride to explore everything our town has to offer.
  • Fun Seasonal Community Events Bringing the trolley to life with downtown Art Sprawls, local shop tours, fall ghost tours, and holiday light rides with the kids in December!
  • Made for Locals & Four Legged Friends Looking at options to make rides 100% free for Gravenhurst residents, and making sure it’s dog friendly so our furry family members can ride right along with us.
“This is bigger than just moving people from point A to point B. It’s about creating a true destination with purpose. When we think outside the box, we support our main street businesses, celebrate our heritage, and make sure nobody gets left behind without a ride. It’s practical, it has Muskoka character, and it’s completely doable if we work together.”Gordie Merton

The best part of an idea like this? It isn’t set in stone. It’s an ongoing conversation, and your feedback is what will make it work. Voting runs from October 14 to October 26. Drop your thoughts in the comments on Facebook and TikTok, share your ideas for where you’d want the stops to be, and let’s keep working together to connect our town!
